Hi Gabriel:

You are helping all of us to connect with these refugees and to reflect on the huge injustice that has been done to them...and to anyone who cannot return to their own home. The world's gaze seems to have shifted to the terrible famine in Somalia and N. Kenya. What will it take to help these refugees return? We await more reflections from you.

Take good care, Paula

Dear Pam:
Thank you. I'm looking forward to being back home for many reasons, but included among them is exactly what you said in your comment, figuring out how to do more to help our friends gain education. There are many challenges but also great opportunity. Thank you for coming along with me on these trips, starting with the very first one that seems a lifetime ago. We'll be in touch, and more media coming about the library soon. Paz, Gabriel.

As always, your eloquence is matched by your humility. Thank you for helping us to travel with you on your 11th trip to the camps in Chad. We all await your return home and guidance on what STF must do to help our friends in the camps gain the education they must have for the future. ---- pam

Dear New Roads:

Thank you for your kind words. But, you know, I'm just a regular guy :)

About your questions:

It's always difficult leaving the camps. I think regularly about the kids we meet here, when I'm back at home. The contrast in what they have and what our kids have is so huge. The challenges cannot be compared.

We'll have to hear what Rahma and Adam report, once the library starts going around and used. I'm sure there are some things that will work great and some not so great.

About books, it should really be done in an organized way, with STF deciding carefully what books would be the best. We can bring very, very few real books; we can load as many e-books on to a Kindle as we want, so that has more possibilities. I do believe we should continue to bring a small but meaningful collection of actual books because they really add to the experience of reading.

About food, I eat bags of tuna, nuts, granola bars, and dry fruit. Not good. I get sick of it after a few days, but it keeps me going. I'm eating about 1,000 calories per day, which is well bellow half of what I normally eat. Actually I have no idea how much I normally eat back at home, since there are no limits when it comes to food. It makes me appreciate and think about food very differently.

Thanks!

Hello Merri:
Thanks for always being there. You do such a great job of having your kids look at the world with different eyes. I wish we had more Merris in many, many schools! As we start getting reports from Adam and Rahma about the R2E Library, we can start thinking about how to add to it, expand it, and maybe eventually build a library for all in the camp!

Greetings from Carson Human Rights Club. We hope you enjoyed the letters we sent to you all. It has been a real honor to contribute in building the mobile libraries. A couple of members are asking if Rahma has a girlfriend?

Gabriel & team,
I am enjoying following your journey and listening to you on the conference call as I am typing this comment. It is such an amazing project and I know that the Carson team is proud to have been a part of what I hope is just the beginning of an amazing partnership and project.

Like the New Roads STF team I would like to know what more we can do - more books, more fund-raising for the Kindles, etc.

Sincerely and with much thanks Merri

Hey, we're in class right now and just wanted to leave a comment. What you're doing out there is really amazing and means a lot to us. We think what you are doing is very inspiring and has made us decide to make a difference and make others aware. You're an awesome person. And we're all very proud to be a part of this project.
We have a few questions we hope you can answer.

Is it hard to watch the children learn and then return to America?
If we're able to do another library, what materials work best?
If we have books we want to donate, is that alright or is it only in a digital format?
What do you do about food?

We wish you the best, hope to see you soon, happy holidays! Thank you!

Hi Gabriel,
We all just watched your video from Goz Amer and are so excited that you are moving on to Camp Djabal! It was interesting reading what Umbda said about basic human rights...that their hopes aren't very high. We are excited that we have been able to create human rights education materials so that everyone knows education IS a basic human right. It was encouraging seeing some improvements in the schools (e.g., desks!). Keep up the good work, we can't wait to hear about how the materials are received in Djabal.

Sincerely,
Santa Monica High School STF
